WICKLOW ROVERS AFC CLUB NOTES WEEK ENDING 21st July 2019
The senior ladies made their exit from the DWSL cup last Wednesday night when they lost 3-1 to St Pats with Niamh O'Brien netting for them. After losing their first four league games and another cup game away to Castletown the girls are still seeking their first victory of the season after six games. Apart from two heavy defeats to Cabinteely and St Columbans the girls have ran their other opponents close and with a bit of luck their first win isn't far away.
Our under 17 DDSL team [Born 2003] are currently looking for players for the upcoming 2019/20 season, they also require a goalkeeper. If you are interested in playing your football in the DDSL with our under 17’s please contact manager Jerry Lewins at 086-8943302.
At the time of going to print we’ll be in the middle of the second week of our annual Summer Camp and if week one was anything to go by it should be a great occasion for everyone involved. Close on 80 kids attended the first week and apart from the last day the weather was kind. We had kids from 4 years old up to 13 years old and everyone had a great time. I think we witnessed a lot of potential for the future on view at the camp with some talented footballers demonstrating their skills.
The Leinster Senior Saturday team have resumed pre-season training for the new 2019/20 season, training takes place in the Rocky Road every Tuesday and Thursday at 7.30pm. All existing, past and new players are welcomed to attend. Anyone interested in joining the team and can’t make the start of training should contact manager BA Franey at 086-3631836.
The club’s weekly junior soccer academy continues every Saturday morning throughout the summer months [weather permitting] under the watchful eye of senior club coach Johnny Dunne. The academy takes places on the all weather pitch on the club grounds at Whitegates and is open to all kids from the age of 3 years to 8 years. The academy starts at 11 o’clock and finishes at 12. There is no need for registration so you can come along to any week that suits. Come along and learn the skills of football while having fun and enjoyment, it’s a great way of meeting new friends as you learn the skills as you get prepared for the introduction to participate in organised league football in the coming years.
With the second half of the season due to start we would like to remind members who have outstanding membership fees that these are due now, you can pay your membership online at wicklowrovers.com, to your manager or through any committee member, thank you.

On the odd occasion when a team within our club don’t see a match snippet in our club notes or on our facebook page this is not down to the person writing up the club notes or posting on the facebook page. It’s because the manager hasn’t bothered to pass on the match details. All you are asked for is the result and goalscorers, no match report is required even though it would be appreciated for our facebook page. In fairness this is only the minority as the majority of managers are sending in results, goalscorers and in some cases match reports. We all know it’s a little harder to send in the information when you lose a match but this shouldn’t be the case. Whether you win, lose or draw the match details should be sent in for our club notes by 5pm on the Sunday evening, anyone that plays a match during the week, eg. Monday, Tuesday etc, have loads of time to submit their match details. People are interested in how our teams get on in their games so please forward your match details not just when you win but for every game. This applies to the whole club senior and junior.
